Balloons over Mount Vernon

The Mt. Vernon Outland Airport will be the back drop of Balloons Over Mt. Vernon and Fly-in on October 14th, 15th & 16th 2016, at the Mt.Vernon Outland Airport in Mt. Vernon, Illinois
Last years event hosted over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky”. This will be the fourth year for the event.
Last year featured all aspects and types of aviation including a Veterans Reunion. We had the United Way Balloon Glow presented by Flo Gas Propane Services, a tether balloon offering paid rides, War birds, sponsor booths, United Way agencies family activities, vendors, crafters, inflatables, the 501st Legion made an appearance. We also had the US Bank Duck Drop with the Hot Air Balloons dropping ducks from the balloons at a target near the pond. We had a wide array of activities to continue the day like the United Way Pancake Breakfast, YMCA 5K Run/Walk, Rotary Ping Pong Ball Drop, RC Boats on the Pond, Cruise to the Balloons, EAA Chapter 1155 Young Eagle Rides. Any child 8-17 years of age may take an exploratory flight in a plane. We also had our Tri County Aviation Education Zone where children and adults experienced flight simulators, and learned about hot air ballooning, and was asking pilots and student pilots about aviation.
We had our Salute to Veterans in the afternoon which recognized the brave men and women who have and continue to fight for our freedom as well as the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing which brought their P51 Mustang “Red Nose” and offer paid rides. To wrap up the day on Saturday, Crossroads Community Hospital honored four cancer survivors. We want to thank all those that attended either by vehicle, foot or air for our epic weekend of celebrations, balloons, planes, and exciting family activities during Balloons Over Mt. Vernon and Fly-in 2015! Information will follow soon for our 2016 event.
